When i disable bluetooth they still work perfectly fine because KDE Connect is routed through my local traffic. I assume that the proton vpn build i use doesn't redirect local traffic therefore i can use it no problem. I'm on garuda linux and i use the chaotic AUR build of the vpn client. I have no idea why it doesn't work for OP.
